Künker sale 423, lot 182

This specimen was lot 182 in Künker Auction 423 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,062 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1761, Hall. Brustbild r. mit Diadem und umgelegtem Mantel//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Kopfscheinen, auf der Brust gekröntes mehrfeldiges Wappen (Dalmatien, Ungarn, Kastilien, Böhmen, Kroatien / Mailand, Österreich, Burgund, Schlesien / Siebenbürgen, Steiermark, Lothringen, Kärnten, Görz), mit Mittelschild (Tirol). Vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion H. D. Rauch 44, Wien 1990, Nr. 3528. (Holy Roman Empire, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, half convention thaler of 1761, Hall mint. Obverse: Veiled, diademed and mantled bust right; reverse: crowned and nimbate double headed eagle supports the manifold arms of Dalmatia, Hungary, Castile, Bohemia, Croatia, Milan, Austria, Burgundy, Silesia, Styria, Lorraine, Carinthia and Gorizia with the escutcheon of Tyrol. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck to the convention thaler standard 1756-65. Other half thalers for 1760 include KM 1822 (mature bust, Vienna mint) or KM 2036 (Francis I).

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 14.03 g, 0.833 fine silver, 35 mm diameter, this specimen 14,04 g.
