Heritage sale 3024, lot 23825
from Heritage Auction Galleries

This specimen was lot 23825 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $3,055. The catalog description[2] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1741-B, Rouen, MS65 NGC, fully lustrous with very sharp bust features, faint hairlines on the reverse." The louis d'or au bandeau was struck in France 1740-74 and is the commonest gold coin of Louis XV after the louis d'or aux lunettes of 1726-40. This product of the Rouen mint, however, is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 23,640[1].

Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
