This specimen was lot 99090 in Heritage sale 61259 (Dallas, TX, February 2022), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV 1/2 Ecu 1741-W AU58 NGC, Lille mint. 1/2 Ecu au bandeau. Blessed with a reverse essentially untouched by exchange and whose condition continues to lie at the very boundary of Mint State designations." This coin, called a demi-écu au bandeau, was the French equivalent of a half dollar. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the half écu = three livres. The type was struck 1741-74 and is recorded for the Lille mint for 1741-42, 1744-63, 1766 and 1774. Lille is not a rare mint for this type altho no date is common.

Specification: 14.74 g, 0.917 fine silver, 31-33 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
