Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 74748

This specimen was lot 74748 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/10 Ecu, 1741-H. La Rochelle Mint. Louis XV. PCGS VF-25. From the Richard August Collection." This coin, called a dixième d'écu au bandeau, was the equivalent of a ten cent piece. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the dixième d'écu = 12 sols. The type was struck 1740-72 and is recorded for the La Rochelle mint ("H") for 1740-41, 1743 and 1769-70.

Recorded mintage: unknown but uncommon[2].

Specification: 2.95 g, 0.917 fine silver, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
