France 1741-P 1/20 ecu

This diminutive coin, called a vingtième d'écu au bandeau", was the French equivalent of a half dime. In the coinage system of the ancien régime, the vingtième d'écu = 6 sols. The type was struck 1740-69 but is recorded for the Dijon mint ("P") in 1741 and 1743 only. This specimen was lot 1478 in CGB sale 31 (Paris, June 2007).

Recorded mintage: unknown but not common.

Specification: 1.47 g, 0.917 fine silver, 18-19 mm diameter.
