Künker sale 336, lot 6053

This specimen was lot 6053 in Künker sale 336 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €650 (about US$851 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH, KÖNIGREICH, Louis XV, 1715-1774. Louis d'or au bandeau 1741, L, Bayonne. GOLD. Min. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (kingdom of France, Louis XV, 1715-74, louis d'or of the ribbon of 1741, Bayonne mint. Minor rim flaws, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1740-70 and is common as French gold coins go.

Recorded mintage: 76,163[2], a common date.

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24-26 mm diameter, this specimen 8.06 g.
