This specimen was lot 1305 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or aux lunettes, 1740-D (Lyon). Louis XV. Mintage 1,382. Rare. PCGS graded AU-55." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. Some mints, including Lyon, also struck the louis d'or aux lunettes (Fr-461, shown here) in 1740.

Recorded mintage: 1,382 (unpriced) + 11,332 of Fr-464[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Röettiers.
