This specimen was lot 1304 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $630. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or aux lunettes, 1740-Z (Grenoble). Louis XV. Mintage 1,092. Rare. PCGS graded Extremely Fine Detail (Tooled)." The louis d'or au bandeau was introduced in 1740 and was struck at all the mints. Some mints, including Grenoble, struck the louis d'or aux lunettes (Fr-461, shown here) in 1740. Nearly everything with the "Z" mintmark is rare or very rare.

Recorded mintage: 1,092, an unpriced date[2].

Specification: 8.15 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J. C. Röettiers.
