This specimen is a slightly scarce date of a series struck 1869-90 at the San Luis Potosí mint. Assayer "R" is also known for 1886 and is somewhat more common. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller 20 centavos piece in 1898.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 78,000 (assayers C and R).

Catalog reference: KM 406.8.
