This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. The SCWC notes 1878/7 and 1878/1 overdates in addition to the regular date. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9110 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $373.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1878/1-MoM. Lightly toned. NGC MS-64."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 120,000.
