Hannover 1714-HH 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 74544 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1714-HH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg Ludwig (George I of Great Britain). PCGS AU-53. Mostly slate gray throughout, this handsome survivor presents an even deeper nature nearer the peripheries. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1712-15 and is fairly common. In 1714, Georg Ludwig ascended the throne of Great Britain and all the Hanoverian coinage was revised to show his new title the next year.
