Ponterio sale 159, lot 9210

Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is scarce. This specimen was lot 9210 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1885-MoM. Scarce date, superb condition. Sharply struck and beautifully toned. NGC MS-66.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 12,000.
