Künker sale 354, lot 5128

This specimen was lot 5128 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,366 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA, Volksrepublik. 100 Yuan 1993. Lunarserie, Ausgabe zum Jahr des Hahnes. 14,26 g Feingold. GOLD. R Nur 2.300 Exemplare geprägt. Polierte Platte. (people's republic of China, one hundred yuan of 1993, lunar series, year of the rooster. Only 2,300 struck, proof.)"

Hong Kong was the first entity to issue coins honoring the animals of the Chinese lunar calendar, in 1976. The communist regime of China entered the field in 1983 and has issued hundreds of types in every mintable metal. This one honors the Year of the Rooster.

Recorded mintage: 1,900 proofs.
