Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 3293

This specimen was lot 3293 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 65 € (about US$84 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Francia. 1830. Carlos X. M (Toulouse). 5 francos. AG. MBC- [about very fine]." This type was struck during the reign of Charles X (1824-30) from numerous mints. The silver five francs of this regime are divided into two types, most easily distinguished by the position of MICHAUD's name near the base of the king's bust. The specimen shown is the second type. This date is priced about double the Paris mint issue. The Louis Philippe five francs from Toulouse is rare.

Recorded mintage: 495,902 plus 50,312 for Louis Philippe[2].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut (1786-1879), this specimen 24,84 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-88; Gadoury 644; Mazard 822, F.311/48, KM 728.9.
