This specimen was lot 40506 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $1,351. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, 1830-A. NGC MS-62. Raised edge lettering. Lustrous. Dark toned obverse. From the Madeleine Collection." This type was struck during the reign of Charles X (1824-30) from numerous mints. The silver five francs of this regime are divided into two types, most easily distinguished by the position of MICHAUD's name near the base of the king's bust. The specimen shown is the second type and was struck at Paris. This date is common, more common than any of the Louis Philippe issues for the year.

Recorded mintage: 6,327,141 plus 2,420,032 for Louis Philippe.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM. Designed by Auguste-François Michaut (1786-1879).
