This specimen was lot 74534 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Charles X/Royal Visit Silver '5 Francs' Medal, 1830. PCGS SPECIMEN-63. Lettered edge. Commemorating the royal visit of François I and Marie Isabelle of Sicily to the Paris Mint. Obverse: Two coat-of-arms within wreath under crown; Reverse: Inscription in 7 lines. This interesting medal commemorates the royal visit to the Paris Mint by Maria Isabella and François I of the two Sicilies. This Choice beauty offers attractivity in the form of dancingly reflective fields and some interesting toning that peppers the surfaces." The SCWC lists this design in bronze, silver plated bronze, silver (shown here) and gold. Mint visit medlas were struck on a number of occasions during the restoration and into the reign of Louis Philippe. They ceased after the fall of Napoleon III.
