This specimen was lot 649 in Aureo sale 269 (Barcelona, July 2015), where it sold for €1,500 (about US$1,938 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"* 1990. Cuba. 100 pesos. AU. V Centenario - Colón. Con certificado. Acuñación de 250 ejemplares. Proof. (Cuba, gold one hundred pesos of 1990, for the fifth centennial of Christopher Columbus, with certificate, mintage of 250 pieces, proof.)"
This type is listed in the SCWC but without a photo. Desperate for foreign exchange, Cuba has issued large numbers of NCLT's, many only vaguely related to Cuba. This type was accompanied by a gold five hundred pesos (Fr-43) and fifty pesos (Fr-46).
Recorded mintage: 250, all proof.
Specification: 31.10 g, .999 fine gold, this specimen 31,02 g.
Catalog reference: Fr-45, KM 302.
