This specimen was lot 3309 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "1851 MP 1 escudo. Guadelupe y Calvo mint. Contemporary forgery. EF. Types as above. Light yellow gold, some lustre remaining. Pale copper on the high points, small surface marks and a test cut on rim at 3:00. Underweight and of low grade gold, an interesting circulating forgery. From B. Max Mehl’s sale of the Thomas W. Voetter Collection, January 1943, Lot 110."

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW; this specimen 2.85 grams, 18.70 mm diameter.
