The first specimen was lot 11343 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $764. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. Centavo, 1870-Mo. NGC MS-64 RB. Sharply struck." Altho Mexico City is a common mint for bronze centavos, the early dates are scarce in nice condition. For this year, an 1870/69 overdate is recorded.

Recorded mintage: 1,200,000.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-391.6.
