This specimen was struck at Mexico City, an early date of a type struck there 1869-90. This date is noted as common. The first specimen was lot 9105 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1871-MoM. NGC MS-62." Many dates of the balance scale twenty-five centavos are unknown in high grade.

Recorded mintage: 138,000.

Specification: 6.77 g, .903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.
