Mexico 1832-Mo JM real

Heritage sale 3029, lot 31669

This specimen was lot 31669 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $158.63. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic Real 1832 Mo-JM, MS64 NGC. Sharply struck with bold design features, the surfaces display a rich blend of silvery-gray patina and mint luster." This specimen was struck at the Mexico City mint in 1832. This mint has operated since 1535, with one reals known for 1825-33, 1850-63. Assayer JM is recorded for 1823-32. The issues of Mexico City, along with Zacatecas and Guanajuato, are generally common.
