from the Stack's Bowers 2024 ANA sale, lot 43245
SB824-43245r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43245 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE. National Convention. Silver 1/2 Sol Module Essai (Pattern), Year I/1792. Paris Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-58. Plain edge. By M. Brézin. Struck from somewhat rusted dies, this silver offering stands as an EXTREMELY RARE 'method of striking' pattern by Brézin. Some uneven toning is noted, but the level and crispness of detail remaining is rather pleasing. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Glendining on 7 October 1986). Ex: Henry Kotzen Collection (Glendining - 10/1986) Lot # 30. Ex: Marcel Baille Collection (Jules Florange & Cie FPL 5 - 9/1954) Lot # 333."

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: bronze, 21 mm diameter, this specimen silver, 4.25 g.

Catalog reference: Maz-378a (R3); Guilloteau-367.
