Steve Album sale 51, part of lot 1619

This specimen was part of lot 1619 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $26,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA (PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC): 5-coin gold proof set, 1993, KM-546-47 & 549-51, Fr-68-73, SET includes: 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 yuan featuring Guanyin (Kuan Yin), the Bodhisattva of Compassion, seated in a lotus blossom, all with P (proof) mark, accompanied with original People's Bank of China red case of issue and card cover, with COA numbered 0862 and Goddess of Mercy card, an official mintage of 1000 sets but only around 500 sets were produced; set of 5 gold coins, RR. This is a very rarely encountered set on the market and the last example we could find sold was in 2012!" The 100 yuan NCLT's for 1993 included KM 477, 480, KM 508, 513, 514, 515, KM 516, 523, |KM 534, 535, 539, 551 (shown here), 574, 592 and 598.
