This specimen was lot 2424 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $305.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico: Zacatecas. 2 Reales, 1811 VF25. War of Independence. Royal arms. Ferdinand VII. L.V.O. below mountain. VF-25." This specimen is one of a series minted 1811 in Zacatecas during the reign of Ferdinand VII. The mounting anarchy unleashed during the War of Independence forced the royal authorities to open branch mints, such as Zacatecas, Guanajuato and Durango. This design was also used for half and one real and eight reales issues. A variety exists (KM 186) with the date inverted. The date is somewhat scarce and rare well struck. The Zacatecas mint closed in 1905.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
