The first specimen was lot 31250 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1856 Do-CP MS63 NGC, Durango mint. Choice Mint State with frosty surfaces and good eye appeal. Rare in this preservation and currently tied with one other example as the highest graded by NGC. From The Law Collection." The Durango mint struck eight escudos 1832-70 and is one of the abundant mints tho less so than Culiacan or Guanajuato; many dates are common. The eagle is distinctive to Durango and can be found on all the silver and gold denominations.
