Künker Auction 441, lot 4876

This specimen was lot 4876 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €3,200 (about US$4,402 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Joseph II., 1765-1790. Konv.-Taler 1774 IC-FA, Wien. Mit Medusenhaupt auf der Brust. RR Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit herrlicher Patina, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich/Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung Kommerzialrat Dr. Herbert Wenzel, Wien. Erworben 1953 aus der Sammlung H. Welek. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, convention thaler of 1774, Vienna mint, with the head of Medusa on the emperor's breast. Very rare, attractive example with superb patina, hairlines, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1773-80 for Joseph II and is common. Some of this series have an "A" under the bust but not this one.
