This Spanish two escudos was struck at the Seville mint in 1809. It is a rare one-year type struck as French troops approached. Unlike the Latin American mints which concentrated on eight escudos, the most common Spanish gold coins of the period were the half escudo and two escudos. The mint was moved to Cadiz in 1811 and did not return to Seville until 1815.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
