This Spanish four reales de vellon was struck at the Madrid mint in 1810. It was lot 904 in a recent Soler y Llach sale (Barcelona, July 2010). The type was struck 1809-13 as French troops occupied Madrid. Unlike the traditional four reales, which was half a peso, this coin was a fifth of a peso. It is listed fairly cheaply in circulated condition but does not appear often.

Specification: 5.41 g, 0.903 fine silver, .157 troy oz ASW.
