Aureo y Calicó sale 423, lot 1581

This specimen was lot 1581 in Aureo y Calicó sale 423 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 321 € (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1793. Carlos IV. Seville. CN. 2 escudos. MBC-/MBC [about very fine to very fine]." This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1788-1808 for Charles IV. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, which concentrated on producing eight escudos, the Spanish mints turned most of their gold into two escudos.
