This specimen was lot 849 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $1,860. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Potosí, gold bust 2 escudos, Charles IV, 1793 PR, very rare, NGC VF 25, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Deeply toned around details, normal wear (more like VF 35 in our opinion), still the best at NGC in any case and among only 374 examples struck in this year. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." While silver coins from Bolivia exist in vast quantities, gold from Bolivia is scarce. For the colonial period, Colombia may be regarded as the most prolific issuer, followed by Mexico, followed by Peru. Bolivia, Chile and Guatemala are minor sources. This type was minted 1793-1808 and is rare. Its catalog value is low.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-14186, Janson-74.5; Cal-1363; Fr-16; KM-79.
