Aureo sale 261, lot 521

This specimen was lot 521 in Aureo y Calicó sale 261 (Barcelona, July 2014), where it sold for €240 (about US$385 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1793. Carlos IV. Madrid. MF. 2 escudos. MBC/MBC+. (Charles IV, 1788-1808, two escudos of 1793, Madrid mint, very fine or better.)"

This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1788-1808 for Charles IV. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, which concentrated on producing eight escudos, the Spanish mints turned most of their gold into two escudos.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW.
