Áureo y Calicó sale 345, lot 598

This specimen was lot 598 in Áureo y Calicó sale 345 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €225 (about US$290 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1791. Carlos IV. Sevilla. C. 2 escudos. MBC-/MBC. (kingdom of Spain, Charles IV, two escudos of 1791. About very fine.)"

This type was struck in Madrid and Seville 1788-1808 for Charles IV. This date is common. Unlike the Latin American mints, which concentrated on producing eight escudos, the Spanish mints turned most of their gold into two escudos.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.875 fine gold, .190 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.65 g.
