Mexico 1793-Mo FM 2 escudos
This specimen was lot 31290 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $540.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 2 Escudos 1793 Mo-FM AU Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Mexico City mint, With wear most noticeable among the highest points and faint hairlines that cover the surfaces. A nice example with a softly-struck central reverse motif and plenty of original luster. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This date is the second to use the new punches of Charles IV. The type was struck 1791-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial two escudos.
