This specimen was lot 911 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $488.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1793-FM. Charles IV (1788-1808). ANACS EF-45." Assayer FM is known for the years 1784-1801. All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce but the escudos of Charles IV are among the more available types.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
