Mexico 1793-Mo FM 4 escudos
This specimen was lot 31311 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $646.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 4 Escudos 1793 Mo-FM VF35 NGC, Mexico City mint. With typical surface abrasions and some softness to the strike, this lightly-golden coin is seldom offered at any level, and this is currently the only certified example of this date. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. This date is the second to use the new punches of Charles IV. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial four escudos.
