This specimen was lot 31271 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold Escudo 1794 Mo-FM AU53 NGC, Mexico City mint. A lovely selection with fully-lustrous fields and limited wear upon the central devices. Choice in this lightly-circulated quality and highly-appealing from all angles. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial escudos.
