This specimen was lot 31272 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold Escudo 1795 Mo-FM AU55 NGC, Mexico City mint. A sparkling selection with an attractive portrait and original surfaces that contain full-bodied bloom. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial escudos.
