Shown is an 1795MoFM 4 reales, one of a type struck 1792-1808 in Mexico City. Assayer FM is recorded for the years 1784-1801. The four reales is the scarcest of the colonial denominations and when found is usually in low grade. The second specimen was lot 23255 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1795-MoFM. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Faint repunch on '7' and '9' of date. Light signs of circulation with a decent strike and plenty of remaining luster in the protected areas. Striking aqua toning in the peripheries and amongst the devices. A great example with beautiful tone and fantastic eye appeal. Clearly an example which sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed and as such quite attractive."
