This specimen was lot 72108 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 4 Reales, 1795-L IJ. Lima Mint. Charles IV. PCGS AU-55. A lustrous and lightly handled example that offers the more delicate detailing, particularly on the portrait, that most coins of the type have long since lost. The surfaces remain bright and argent with light spots of darker color throughout that give the coin a stately appearance. From the Pat Johnson Collection." This type is listed for Peru 1791-1808 and is scarce, especially in choice condition. Unlike the eight reales, the four reales was not hoarded. Assayer IJ is listed for 1787-1803. The fineness was lowered from .903 to .896 in 1785.
