Aureo sale 238, lot 517

This specimen was lot 517 in Aureo & Calicó sale 238 (Barcelona, November 2011), where it sold for 850 euro (about US$1,348 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1732. Sevilla. PA. 8 reales. Golpecito. Parte de brillo original. Rara. EBC-. (Eight reales of 1732, Seville mint. Rim nick, lustrous, rare, nearly extremely fine.)"

This type, the ancestor of the familiar pillar dollar of Latin America, is recorded in the SCWC for Spain for 1731-36. All the dates are tough.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
