Aureo y Calicó sale 422, lot 2650

This specimen was lot 2650 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it sold for 40 € (about US$52 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "1662. Felipe IV. Burgos. R. 16 maravedís. Ligeramente desplazada. MBC- [struck off center, about very fine]." This denomination was struck 1661-64 at Burgos. The sixteen maravedis which appears here was struck only briefly (1660-64) and then abandoned, most likely due to rejection by the populace. The type is also known from Cuenca, Cordoba, Coruña, Valladolid, Madrid, Seville, Segovia and Granada.
