Spain 1610-G M 4 reales
This specimen was lot 73017 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, 1610-G M. Granada Mint. Philip III. NGC MS-62. The finest graded, (top pop), at NGC for this date. Legends are mostly weak, (Philip's name is clear), yet Mint, (G for Granada), assayer, ("M"), and denomination, (IIII), are all strong. Slate gray toning, and overall, a first class example." This type was struck at Granada 1599, 1609-16 and 1621, all with assayer "M". Other mints striking four reales during the reign of Philip II include Valladolid, Toledo, Segovia, Seville and Madrid.
