Aureo y Calicó sale 448, lot 165

This specimen was lot 165 in Aureo y Calicó sale 448 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 2,000 € (about US$2,613 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "n/d. Felipe II. Granada. A. 1 escudo. Obv.: Coat of arms between G and A. Attractive. Rare. EBC- [about extremely fine]." The Cayón number we have cited here, 4067, is an undated one escudo from the Granada mint with assayer M. Cayón lists some two escudos with assayer A (Cayón-4086 thru -4089). Cobs of this style were also struck at Seville, Valladolid and Toledo.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce mint.
