Sincona sale 43, lot 3033
Silesia in 1648

This specimen was lot 3033 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 850 CHF (aboout US$1,014 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Stände von Mähren und Schlesien, 1621-1623 Kipper-30 Kreuzer 1621. Breslau. Selten. Fast sehr schön. (Estates of Moravia-Silesia, 1621-23, kipper thirty kreuzer of 1621, Breslau mint. Rare, About very fine.)"

This rare thirty kreuzer was minted 1621 only and was accompanied by a kipper 24 kreuzer (KM 9). The shortsighted overissue of kipper coinage created a brief inflationary bubble in Germany 1619-24. After it burst, the debased coinage was called in and melted, accounting for its rarity today. This Silesian issue is not priced in the SCWC.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 4.32 g.

Catalog reference: Herinek 10. F. u. S. 86, KM 12.
