Sincona sale 43, lot 3034

This specimen was lot 3034 in Sincona sale 43 (Zürich, October 2017), where it sold for 275 CHF (aboout US$328 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Stände von Mähren und Schlesien, 1621-1623 Kipper-24 Kreuzer 1622. Breslau. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. (Estates of Moravia-Silesia, 1621-23, kipper 24 kreuzer of 1622, Breslau mint. Rare, Good very fine.)"

This rare 24 kreuzer was minted 1622-24 only. The shortsighted overissue of kipper coinage created a brief inflationary bubble in Germany 1619-24. After it burst, the debased coinage was called in and melted, accounting for its rarity today.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 5.14 g.

Catalog reference: Herinek 14, F. u. S. 90, KM 48.
