Stack's Bowers 2024 NYINC sale, lot 58588

This specimen was lot 58588 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Sharjah. 50 Riyals, AH 1389 (1970). Karlsruhe Mint. Khalid bin Muhammad al-Qasimi. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate the FIFA World Cup in Mexico." Sharjah only issued coins in 1969-71 and all are NCLT's. This one was struck in Germany. The sheikdom joined the United Arab Emirates and coinage ceased.

Recorded mintage: 1,815 proofs.

Specification: 5.175 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.2998 troy oz AGW.
