Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46161

This specimen was lot 46161 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Sharjah. 25 Riyals, AH 1389 (1970). NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. A brilliant Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices." The total coinage of this state, now part of the United Arab Emirates, comprises one set of NCLT's issued in 1970, including this one honoring the Mona Lisa. The sheikh was assassinated in 1972, aged 40 years.
