Sharjah 1970 100 riyals Fr-3
This specimen was lot 23585 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. Sharjah. 100 Riyals, AH 1389 (1970). Karlsruhe Mint. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo. A tremendous and nearly flawless specimen, this handsome example displays a crisp strike and deeply cameoed appearance. An elusive modern proof issue." The total coinage of this state, now part of the United Arab Emirates, comprises one set of NCLT's issued in 1970, including this one honoring that famous Arab patriot, Simon Bolivar. The sheikh was assassinated in 1972, aged 40 years.
