This specimen was lot 77321 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2/3 Taler, 1766. Dresden Mint. Frederick August III. PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, VF Details. From the G. L. Hermann Collection." After a brief reign of Friedrich Christian, Friedrich August III ascended to the electorate under the regency of Xavier (1763-68). This type is listed in the SCWC for 1765-68 along with KM 973 for Xaver. This gulden weighs as much as a half convention thaler. The initials EDC were for Ernst Dietrich Kroll, mintmaster in Weilburg (1749-1752), Leipzig (1753-1764) and Dresden (1764-1778).
