Saxony 1766 thaler Dav-2688
This specimen was lot 3283 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 9,000 CHF (about US$10,856 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Sachsen, Kurfürstentum, Xaver, 1763-1768. Konventionstaler 1766, Dresden. Prämientaler für Künstler und Fabrikanten. Sehr selten. Fast FDC. Feine Patina. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Xaver, 1763-68, convention thaler of 1766, Dresden mint. Prize thaler for arts and crafts. Very rare, About uncirculated, Nice toning.)"
This is one of several prize thalers issued by the regent Xaver and the new elector Frederick Augustus. It is expensive.
